Reducing Plastic Consumption with Thinner PET Films
In a move to minimize plastic usage, Todaytec is pioneering the development of a new generation of TTR ribbons utilizing 4.2μm PET base film. This innovation reduces plastic content by up to 6.7% per roll. While the reduction in film thickness requires significant adjustments in the production process, the long-term environmental benefits make it a worthwhile endeavor.
Annual Impact:
With an annual usage of approximately 1,200 jumbo rolls (910mm x 17,000m), switching to 4.2μm PET film can reduce plastic usage by 9,300 kg, equivalent to the plastic found in 279,000 PET bottles.
Clean Energy Commitment: Harnessing Solar Power
Todaytec has implemented photovoltaic (PV) systems to generate clean energy and reduce dependency on fossil fuels. This initiative plays a critical role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting public health.
Annual solar output: 720,000 kWh
Percentage of total electricity usage: 7.3%
Equivalent coal savings: 88.5 tons/year
CO₂ emissions reduced: 260 tons/year
All electricity generated from solar panels is fully integrated into both production and facility operations.
Sustainable Paper Cores
All Todaytec ribbons are wound on cores made from FSC-certified paper sourced from sustainably managed forests. This initiative supports responsible forestry and promotes circular resource usage.
100% PET Film Waste Recycling
The PET film used as the ribbon’s base layer is a critical component in thermal transfer technology. At Todaytec, PET waste is recycled according to local regulations and environmental recovery standards.
Recycling method: Incineration with energy recovery (IER)
Purpose: To convert PET waste into usable energy, minimizing landfill contributions and lowering carbon footprint.
Solvent Recovery and Energy Conversion
Solvents are essential in the coating process for thermal transfer ribbons. To reduce emissions, Todaytec has installed dual Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers (RTO) to capture and incinerate volatile organic compounds (VOCs), converting them into heat energy used in the production process.
Over 90% of exhaust emissions are recovered and reused
Heat generation equivalent: 2.1 million kcal/hour
Power generation equivalent: 2,440 kWh/hour
Solid Dust Recovery and Air Purification
Dust particles collected during production are captured via advanced filtration systems and either reused or safely recycled. Our facilities utilize a combination of electrostatic and mist-type dust collectors, ensuring over 90% dust removal efficiency. This protects both the environment and our production equipment by preventing buildup, blockages, and unnecessary maintenance costs.
